Early Life and Education

Mark Valley, an American television and film actor, was born in 1964 in Ogdensburg, New York. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and mathematics. Following his graduation, Valley served in the U.S. Army, with postings in Berlin where he also played rugby for the Berlin Yanks Rugby Football Club and represented the U.S. military in competitive rugby. He served during the Gulf War.

Personal Life

Valley has a daughter named Sherri, born in 1987. In 2008, he married actress Anna Torv, his co-star on the television series Fringe. The marriage lasted about a year before the couple divorced.

Early Career and Soap Operas

While still enlisted in the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany, Valley landed his first acting role in the television film The Innocent (1993). That same year, he appeared as Father Pete in the soap opera Another World. From 1994 to 1997, he portrayed Jack Deveraux on NBC’s daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives.

Breakthrough Roles and Television Success

Valley gained wider recognition for his role as Detective Eddie Arlette in Keen Eddie, a short-lived series about an American police officer working in London. He went on to play Brad Chase in the legal drama Boston Legal, a spin-off of The Practice. Valley also made appearances on ER as Richard Lockhart, the ex-husband of Abby Lockhart.
