Michael Kirk Douglas was born on September 25, 1944. He is an American actor and producer, and the son of legendary actor Kirk Douglas and actress Diana Dill. Raised in a household deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, Douglas pursued a career in film, eventually earning critical acclaim for both his acting and producing work.
Douglas achieved his first major box-office success as both producer and star of the 1984 adventure-comedy film Romancing the Stone, in which he co-starred with Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. The film’s success solidified his reputation in Hollywood as a bankable leading man and skilled producer.
Following Romancing the Stone, Douglas went on to star in a series of critically and commercially successful films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. These included Fatal Attraction opposite Glenn Close, Wall Street for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor, and The War of the Roses, reuniting him with Turned and DeVito. He also starred in Basic Instinct with Sharon Stone, Disclosure with Demi Moore, and Traffic alongside Benicio del Toro and Catherine Zeta-Jones, his future wife.
Douglas was in a long-term relationship with actress Brenda Vaccaro during the 1970s before marrying Diandra Luker in 1977. The couple had one son, Cameron Douglas, born in 1978. They divorced in 2000 after over two decades of marriage.
In 2000, Douglas married Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. The couple has two children: Dylan Michael, born in 2000, and Carys Zeta, born in 2003. Despite experiencing a temporary separation in 2013, they have since reconciled and continue to maintain their marriage. In 2003, Douglas and Zeta-Jones co-hosted the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, further increasing their global visibility as a high-profile couple in the entertainment industry.
