Born on October 17, 1980, as Nicholas Scott Cannon, Nick is the son of Beth and James Cannon. His mother worked as an accountant, while his father was a motivational speaker. Raised in a supportive family environment, Nick shared a particularly close bond with his grandfather. He graduated from Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California. Early in life, Cannon took an interest in both football and comedy. His first stand-up comedy routine was performed on local cable television, where his father also appeared regularly.
After high school, Cannon earned an opportunity to serve as a warm-up comedian for the studio audience at Nickelodeon in Los Angeles. He later joined a teen group focused on performing African American-centered comedic programs for local cable. This experience led him to explore behind-the-scenes roles, sparking his interest in production work. During his teen years, he also pursued music, particularly rapping, and was a member of the group "Da G4 Dope Bomb Squad." In 2001, he signed a deal with Jive Records and contributed the track "Parents Just Don't Understand"—a cover version of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's hit—for the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius soundtrack.
Cannon released his self-titled debut album, Nick Cannon, in 2003. The album featured the single "Your Pops Don’t Like Me (I Really Don’t Like This Dude)." His ongoing passion for music led him to establish his own record label, Can-I-Ball Records, in 2005, which he later rebranded as N'Credible Entertainment in 2009. Through N'Credible, Cannon released several tracks including "Can I Live?," "Slick Nick," and "Child of the Corn." In 2013, he released the single "Me Sexy" which was followed by his second studio album, White People Party Music. The album included collaborations with prominent artists like Afrojack, Pitbull, Future, and Polow da Don.
Nick Cannon is widely recognized for his accomplishments as a television host. He created and hosted MTV's long-running improv comedy series Wild 'N Out. His other hosting roles include the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, America's Got Talent, Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, and Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon. He also made a mark in radio broadcasting by hosting a morning show for 92.3 NOW FM (WXRK-FM) in New York, as well as working with CBS Radio. In the business realm, Cannon has taken on leadership roles, including serving as chairman of TeenNick and working as a creative consultant within the development branch of the Nickelodeon Network.
Nick Cannon’s personal life has drawn considerable public attention, particularly his relationship with singer Mariah Carey. The couple married in 2008 in a private ceremony in the Bahamas and welcomed twins in 2011—daughter Monroe and son Moroccan Scott. In 2014, they separated, and their divorce was finalized in 2016. Despite their separation, Cannon has spoken positively about Carey, expressing gratitude for their children and continued mutual respect. His tattoo dedicated to Carey, and the subsequent cover-up tattoo, also received media attention. As of recent estimates, Nick Cannon possesses a net worth of approximately $50 million, reflecting his extensive work in entertainment, music, and business.
