Nick Robinson, whose full name is Nicholas John Robinson, is an American actor known for his breakout roles in film and television. He was born in Seattle, Washington, and is the eldest of five children. He also has older half-siblings from his father's previous marriage.
Robinson began acting at the age of 11 when he was cast in a stage production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. In 2008, a family friend in the theater industry recommended that Robinson's parents introduce him to Matt Casella, a well-known Hollywood talent scout. After their meeting, Casella directed them to several agencies. Robinson eventually signed with the Savage Agency in Los Angeles. However, due to the Writers Guild of America strike at the time, he and his family returned to Seattle, where he continued working in local theater.
In 2009, after his second television audition, Robinson landed the role of Ryder Scanlon on the ABC Family sitcom Melissa & Joey. He played the nephew of Melissa Joan Hart's character, a role that showcased his talent to a nationwide audience and marked his official entry into television acting.
During a hiatus from Melissa & Joey in 2011, Robinson began filming for the Disney Channel original movie Frenemies, which premiered in 2012. He played Jake Logan alongside fellow Disney stars Zendaya and Bella Thorne, who were then starring in Shake It Up.
Robinson received critical acclaim for his role as Joe Toy in the 2013 independent coming-of-age film The Kings of Summer. Around the same time, he also appeared in an episode of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, portraying Rowland Smith, a young thief who steals a liquor shipment from the show’s central character, Nucky Thompson. He also featured in a television commercial series for Cox Communications titled Buffer Time is Bonding Time, which began airing in 2012.
In 2013, Robinson was cast in Jurassic World, the fourth installment of the iconic Jurassic Park franchise. He co-starred with Ty Simpkins as one of two brothers visiting their aunt during the dinosaur park disaster. The movie was released in 2015 and became a global blockbuster. In 2016, he starred as Ben Parish in the film adaptation of Rick Yancey’s science fiction novel The 5th Wave.
Robinson continued to gain attention with upcoming roles in projects such as Being Charlie and the indie comedy Krystal. He was nominated for Best Performance by a Youth in a Lead or Supporting Role for his work in The Kings of Summer, further affirming his rising status in the entertainment industry.
Nick Robinson has participated in various media interviews, including those promoting Jurassic World, where he discussed his role as Zach Mitchell. While his online presence is relatively low-key, fans can find more about his career and updates through official interviews and curated appearances.
