Tye Sheridan was born in Elkhart, Texas. He began his acting career with a breakout role in the 2011 film The Tree of Life, directed by Terrence Malick and starring Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, and Sean Penn. Sheridan was selected from over 10,000 children who auditioned for the part. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Palme d'Or and later received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Sheridan achieved mainstream recognition with his leading role as Wade Watts in Steven Spielberg's 2018 science fiction adventure film Ready Player One. The film was released on March 29, 2018, and significantly expanded his audience reach.
