Vic Fuentes was born in 1983 in San Diego, California. He attended Mission Bay High School alongside his younger brother, Mike Fuentes. The brothers shared a strong interest in music from an early age. Their father, Victor Gamboa Fuentes, is a former Mexican jazz musician who later became a painter. Their mother is Vivian K. Fuentes. Vic has one half-sister and two half-brothers.
Vic began learning to play the guitar at age seven. After high school, he enrolled at San Diego State University, where he studied graphic design. However, he left college when his band Before Today signed with Equal Vision Records. Before forming Pierce the Veil, Vic played in several bands, including 3 Simple Words alongside Curtis Peoples. Together, they developed their musical skills and built on their creative chemistry.
Following 3 Simple Words, Vic and Mike Fuentes formed a band called Early Times. After releasing three EPs, the band underwent a name change to Before Today due to copyright issues. Under this new name, the band signed with Equal Vision Records and released the album A Celebration of an Ending before eventually disbanding.
In 2006, Vic and Mike Fuentes formed the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil, integrating guitarist Tony Perry and bassist Jaime Preciado. The band gained widespread recognition for its energetic sound and emotive lyrics. They have released several notable albums, including Selfish Machines and Collide with the Sky. The song "A Match Into Water," featured on Collide with the Sky, was written by Vic for an ex-girlfriend who was battling breast cancer.
Pierce the Veil has toured extensively across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, performing at prominent music festivals and gaining an international fan base. Vic also briefly collaborated in the supergroup Isles & Glaciers, further showcasing his versatility as a musician.
Vic Fuentes is known for his emotionally-driven songwriting. He does not adhere to a specific songwriting formula, instead drawing inspiration from personal experiences, relationships, travel, and interactions with friends and fans. His distinctive voice and wide vocal range are key elements of Pierce the Veil's unique sound, helping the band stand out in the post-hardcore and alternative rock scenes.
Fuentes has collaborated frequently with fellow artist Curtis Peoples, including co-writing the Gold-certified single "King for a Day." Their collaborative journey began in high school and has continued through various musical projects. Additionally, Vic has contributed as a keyboardist on select recordings, showcasing his multi-instrumental talent.
Vic Fuentes is in a relationship with Danielle Perry, a model who appeared on the cover of Rise Against’s The Black Market album. He also maintains a close personal and professional relationship with musician Nick Martin, who is best known for his work with the band Sleeping With Sirens. Though primarily recognized for his work as a singer and guitarist, Vic remains a versatile artist and an enduring figure in the post-hardcore music scene.
