As the events of a terror attack on the World Trade Center in New York unfolded, Shawn was there to cover. In 2004, Shawn led the FOX News Investigation Team which uncovered new evidence in the case of a missing person, Jimmy Hoffa. His investigation revealed a special pattern of blood splatter on the floor of the alleged house in which Jimmy Hoffa was killed. Controversy

On New Year’s Eve in 2018, there was a shooting in Colorado that injured four people and killed a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy. Fox News came under fire for not including the fact that the shooter had endorsed white supremacy and posted alt right memes on his personal Facebook page.

Eric was the one who reported on the shooting on air during a Fox News’ America’s Newsroom broadcast, “There are some new details on the Colorado man who police say shot and killed a deputy and wounded four others. Police were contacted with concerns, they say, about the mental state of the shooter over a month before the New Year's Eve incident. That suspect, you see there on the right, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Riehl. He was an attorney and an Iraq War veteran. He also, they say, posted videos criticizing Colorado law enforcement. Police responded to a complaint at an apartment building south of Denver on Sunday. They say Riehl fired over 100 rounds at the responding officers who eventually shot and killed him.”

The media attacked Fox News for omitting the shooter’s white power ties because it was not the first time that they had done it. In February of 2017, there was a mosque shooting in Canada. The shooter was identified by most of the media as an “ultranationalist white supremacist”. Fox News decided to ignore the shooter’s white power association. The national media accused Fox News of omitting the white power ties because they didn't want to upset their audience. They know that their audience is full of many conservatives who would have had a problem if the shooters were labeled as alt right.
