Fredricka Whitfield

Fredricka Whitfield is currently a CNN reporter and anchor born on the 31st of May, 1965. She was born in the state of Maryland in the United States of America. She is the daughter of the Olympic champion Malvin Greston Whitfield, commonly referred to as “Marvelous Mal” who had won the 800 meters race during the 1948 and the 1952 Summer Olympics. Coming from a family of high achieving parents, Fredricka surely hasn’t fallen behind.

Education

Fredricka has always demonstrated a great interest towards Journalism. This is very well reflected in her educational background. She went to the Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Maryland. She managed to graduate it during 1983 and didn’t waste any time with her bachelor’s degree. She went to the Howard University’s School of Communications which is a college, specifically intended to educate youngsters in the field of journalism and public relations. She graduated in 1987. Interestingly enough, while she was at the University, she was the news anchor for the local campus radio station.

 Career Experience

Whitfield has achieved everything there is in her particular field of expertise. She quickly drew the spotlights of the projectors after her hostile interview with Joan Rivers, the famous American actress. Unfortunately Joan passed away only two months after the interview. Another viral story accelerated her fame – the one regarding the shooters of the Dallas police in 2015. Whitfield referred to the gunmen as courageous and brave, thinking it was a part of a terrorist attack. However, she quickly claimed that this was a misspoken statement and she quickly issued a formal apology on air.

Nevertheless, back in her early days, before signing with CNN, Fredericka used to be a correspondent for the NBC news. She also played the role of a correspondent based in Atlanta for the NBC Nightly News all 6 years from 1995 to 2001. At the time she also used to broadcast for other programs at NBC such as The Today Show.

However, after joining CNN back in 2002 her career skyrocketed. Of course, this also reflected on her salary and she is now estimated to have a net worth of about 3 million dollars. She is definitely ranked amongst the wealthiest news reporters. This of course came with a lot of work. Since she joined CNN she reported countless hot major stories. For instance, she was the first anchor that delivered the news of the death of Ronald Reagan. Other famous stories include the terrible Asian tsunami that took place in 2004 as well as the events in the Persian Gulf region which was related to the Bush’s operation – Iraqi Freedom.

Personal Life

Fredricka’s personal life is just as perfect as her professional. Back at the time she was dating her long time boyfriend John Glenn who would soon become her husband. The happy couple decided to make things permanent and got married to live happily ever after. Even though they had some major disagreements which almost led to a divorce, Fredricka is now a happy mother of five kids. She gave birth for the first time back in 2005 when her first son was born and in 2012 she had twins.
