Gracie Gold, whose full name is Grace Elizabeth Gold, was born in 1995 in Newton, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Carl Gold, an anesthesiologist, and Denise Gold, an emergency room nurse. Gracie has a fraternal twin sister named Carly Gold, who is 40 minutes younger and also competed as a figure skater.
Gracie was raised in Springfield, Missouri, before her family later relocated to Springfield, Illinois. She attended ninth grade at Glenwood Senior High School in Chatham, Illinois, before switching to online education to accommodate her skating schedule. During her early years, she also took ballet lessons to support her athletic training.
Gold began skating at the age of eight after attending a birthday party at an ice rink, which sparked her interest in the sport. Initially coached by Max Liu and Amy Vorhaben, she later trained with Alexia Griffin, Susan Liss, and Toni Hickey in Springfield, Illinois. Eventually, she moved on to work with coach Alex Ouriashev at two rinks in the Chicago area.
In 2007, Gracie competed in juvenile pairs figure skating with Sean Hickey, placing eighth at the U.S. Junior Championships. Despite an early interest in pairs, she pursued a more dedicated path in ladies’ singles.
Gold placed fourth at the novice level during the 2010 U.S. Championships. The following season, she moved up to the junior level, finishing sixth at the Midwestern Sectional. Although she did not qualify for Nationals that year, she used the experience to further develop her technical skills and routines.
Her efforts paid off as she gained international recognition in 2012, earning the silver medal at the World Junior Championships. Gold went on to become the U.S. National Champion twice, first in 2014 and again in 2016.
