Jeff Bridges, born Jeffrey Leon Bridges in 1949 in California, is an American actor, producer, and singer. He was born into a prominent Hollywood family. His father, Lloyd Bridges, was a celebrated actor, and his mother, Dorothy Bridges, was a writer and actress. His maternal grandfather was originally from Liverpool, England. Jeff grew up in the Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, an area noted for its celebrity residents.

Bridges has an older brother, Beau Bridges, who is also an accomplished actor. The two worked together on the television series Sea Hunt, which also featured their father, Lloyd. Jeff graduated from high school in 1967. At age 17, he toured with his father in a stage production of Anniversary Waltz. After completing high school, he moved to New York City, where he studied acting at Herbert Berghof Studio. At 18, he joined the United States Coast Guard Reserve, where he served for seven years.
