Jimmy Moyer Franks, professionally known as Jimmy Pop, was born on August 27, 1972, in Trappe, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Richard Lee Franks, who managed a camping resort during Jimmy's childhood, and Alice Ann. Jimmy attended Perkiomen Valley High School before studying mass communication and history at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was during his time at Temple University that he met his future bandmates and co-founded the Bloodhound Gang.
Jimmy Pop’s musical style spans several genres, including hip hop, EDM, punk rock, rap rock, comedy rock, electronic rock, and funk metal. Known for blending humorous and irreverent lyrics with eclectic soundscapes, Jimmy and the Bloodhound Gang drew early influence from the Beastie Boys, a source that shaped the band's signature hybrid of rock and rap.
As the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and one of the founding members of the Bloodhound Gang, Jimmy Pop played a central role in shaping the band's identity and sound. The band gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s, particularly with tracks such as Fire Water Burn, The Bad Touch, Along Comes Mary, The Ballad of Chasey Lain, and Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo. Known for its provocative humor and catchy tunes, the Bloodhound Gang has sold over six million albums worldwide.
The group has faced occasional controversy, most notably when a record label declined to release a track titled "Yellow Fever" due to its explicit content about Asian women. Despite such incidents, the band remains a notable part of the American alternative music scene. Their discography includes the albums Use Your Fingers, One Fierce Beer Coaster, Hooray for Boobies, Hefty Fine, and Hard Off.
