In 2001, Applegate joined WFXT, the Fox affiliate in Boston, where she anchored Fox 25 News. Although the program was canceled shortly afterward, she continued to work at the station, co-anchoring Fox 25 Morning News. In 2004, she transitioned to WNYW, a Fox-owned station in New York City.
Applegate expanded into radio as a fill-in anchor for WCBS in 2009. She also appeared on Living Today, a program on Sirius XM’s Martha Stewart Living Radio. Additionally, she hosted programs on WOR in New York and WRKO in Boston, showcasing her versatility across different media platforms.
In 2008, Applegate made her sole Broadway appearance in the musical Chicago, further highlighting her diverse talents beyond journalism.
In 2012, Applegate announced her departure from WPIX, citing the station’s refusal to reduce her work schedule. Her decision was motivated by a desire to prioritize time with her family, particularly in preparation for the birth of her daughter in early 2013.
