Joseph Anthony Fatone Jr., known professionally as Joey Fatone, was born on January 28, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York. He comes from a family of Italian-American heritage. His father, Joseph Fatone Sr., is both a musician and an actor, while his mother, Phyllis, was a homemaker.
Fatone spent his early years in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. He is the youngest of three children, with an older brother named Steven and a sister named Janine. At the age of 13, his family relocated to Orlando, Florida. He attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, where he first began performing, often singing Valentine’s Day serenades to raise funds for the school’s glee club. During this time, he adopted the stage name P.J.
After graduating from high school, Fatone began working as a performer at Universal Studios in Orlando. It was there that he met Chris Kirkpatrick, who was forming a boy band. In 1995, Fatone joined Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, and Justin Timberlake to form *NSYNC. They initially recruited Jason Galasso as their bass singer, but he was later replaced by Lance Bass.
*NSYNC achieved tremendous success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The group released several multi-platinum albums, including *NSYNC (1998), No Strings Attached (2000), and Celebrity (2001). These albums, coupled with extensive tours, solidified their status as a leading pop act. The band performed at prominent events such as the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the Olympic Games. Although *NSYNC ceased releasing new albums after 2002, they occasionally reunited for special performances at award shows and public events.
