He got married to Rebecca in 1998 after four years of dating. They got separated in 2004 and divorced in 2005. John and Rebecca were co-stars in Full house. John once stated that the rumor about her dumping him because her career was going places and his career was stagnant is a complete rumor. John said that they woke up one day and thought that the relationship has run its course.

He once said that he knew Rebecca for almost 10 years and love to be married to her and have three kids with her and it was heartbreaking to leave her.
