Background

John Edward Walsh was born on December 26 in 1945, in Auburn, New York. He went to the University of Buffalo for his college education. They were a young couple that needed as much income as they could bring into the family.

Relationships

John married Reve Walsh and had four kids with her. In 2002, Reve filed for a divorce from her husband and sought custody of her two minor kids. She broke the marriage after 31 years. There was speculation that a tragic death in the family took a toll on her mental state.

Net Worth

John Walsh, an American television personality known for his work as a criminal investigator, as well as his advocacy for human and victim rights, has amassed a net worth of $20 million.

Family Tragedy

John and Reve's first son, Adam, was kidnapped and killed by a serial killer when he was just six years old. Walsh is known for his justice activism, which was the cause of his involvement in crime-solving after the homicide of his child in 1981. On July 27, 1981, Adam was kidnapped from a Sears retail store at the Hollywood Mall, on the opposite side of the Hollywood Police station.

From Tragedy to Multi-Generational Advocacy: How John Walsh’s Sons Extend Adam’s Legacy

Reve had left Adam in the toy section at the Sears store while she searched for a light. When she came back a few minutes after, Adam was gone. Police records in Adam's case were discharged in 1996. The report stated that a 17-year-old security guard ordered four young men to leave the retail store. Adam was thought to be one of them. Sixteen days after the kidnapping, his severed head was found in a waste waterway 120 miles from his home. His other remains were never recovered.

Numerous names came up in the case about three decades after the homicide. A suspect named Ottis Toole seemed like the most likely suspect. John Walsh had long said he believed that Toole, a vagabond was guilty of the crime. Agents found some green shorts and a shoe that Adam was wearing at Toole's home in Jacksonville, Florida.

In January 2007, famous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer fell under suspicion for the homicide of Adam. Walsh explained this hypothesis in America's Most Wanted, an episode that aired on February 6, 2007.

The prime suspect in Adam's kidnapping and murder, Toole, passed away in jail in 1996 while serving a life sentence for other crimes. He was officially named as Adam's murderer on December 16, 2008, by the Hollywood Police Department, and the case was marked as closed. Toole had twice admitted to the killing throughout the years, yet both times he later contradicted his confessions.
