Julia Baird

Julia Woodlands Baird is an Australian political journalist, writer, and television commentator. 

Julia was born in Sydney. The family briefly lived in New York in the 1970s while her father was the Australian Trade Commissioner. They returned in 1980. Her older brother, Michael, later became the Premier of New South Wales. Julia earned a PhD in history from the University of Sydney in 2001. Her thesis involved women in politics.

In 2006 she became deputy editor of Newsweek in New York City. She also wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer. She frequently writes about gender and politics, including misogyny and transgender issues. As of late, she has written on President Donald Trump's political strategy and religious topics. She wrote a biography of Queen Victory in 2010.

Barid suffers from cancer. She had surgery in 2015 to remove a mass the size of a basketball and announced in January of 2017 that the cancer had recurred. She has two children.
