Though born in Salem, Kirk spent most of his childhood in Union, Washington. He attended grade school located on or near a Native American reservation. Around the age of 12, his family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he completed his high school education. While in Minneapolis, he became involved with the Children’s Theatre Company, an early platform that helped shape his passion for acting. Following his school years, he relocated to New York City to further pursue his interests in the performing arts.

Music and Acting Interests

In addition to acting, Justin Kirk is an avid guitarist and once considered music as a potential career path. In the early 1990s, he played in several New York-based bands, the most notable being The Dimestore Darlings. Parallel to his musical pursuits, Kirk also enrolled in a two-year acting program at a theatre school, reinforcing his dedication to the craft he began exploring with the Children’s Theatre Company.

Justin Kirk has appeared in a variety of films, such as Love! Valour! Compassion!, in which he portrayed Bobby Brahms, Four Boxes as Trevor, 30 Beats as Adam, and Walter in the role of Greg.
