Raised by a single mother, Kesha grew up in a financially modest household alongside her older brother, Lagan. In 1991, when Kesha was four years old, the family moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, Tennessee, after her mother secured a new songwriting publishing deal. While living in Nashville, Kesha frequently accompanied her mother to recording studios, where she developed an early appreciation for music. Her mother encouraged her musical pursuits, even allowing her to help produce songs and experiment with her own sound. In her early years, Kesha and Lagan also formed their own band, fostering her passion for performing.

Education

Kesha completed her elementary schooling in Nashville and later attended both Franklin High School and Brentwood High School. Despite her academic dedication—she described herself as a hardworking student—she often felt out of place due to her unconventional style. She participated in the school marching band, playing both the trumpet and saxophone. Her SAT scores were nearly perfect, earning her an offer to attend Barnard College in New York. However, at age 17, she made the decision to drop out of high school to focus entirely on her music career.
