Lauren Jackson

Lauren Jackson is a Basketball player playing for Australia. She was born on 11th May 1981 in Albury, New South Wales to Gary Jackson and Maree Bennie. Both her parents have played for Australia's national teams. She is usually called with the nick names "Loz", "Jacko" and "LJ".

Lauren attended the Murray High School and she earned the High School Certificate in Canberra. In the year 1997, she was awarded a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

At the young age of 17, she led the AIS side in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) championship to victory. In the year 1999 she joined the team, Canberra Capitals and was on and off for that team till the year 2006 and won four more WNBL Championships. Lauren got a place in the in the Australian under 20 team when she was just a 14 year teenage girl. She scored a place in the Australian Women's National Basketball team when she was 16 years old.

She was a member of 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics teams. She was the captain of the 2008 Summer Olympics teams which won 3 silver medals. She was also a part of the 2012 Summer Olympics in which the Australian team won a Bronze.

In the year 2001, Lauren entered the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft and was picked by the “Seattle Storm”. She helped the Storms win two titles, in the years 2004 and 2011. In the year 2011, she was also awarded the “WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award”. She has also played basketball for clubs not only in Australia but also in Europe. They include the Russian club “WBC Spartak Moscow” and the Spanish Club “Ros Casares Valencia”. Apart from these she also participated in the Korean Basketball League for women and Women's Chinese Basketball Association. In the Korean Basketball League she was named as the Most Valuable Player of the entire league.

Even though she has a successful career, she also has endured many injuries. During the 2008 summer Olympics, she suffered an injury to her ankle for which she had to undergo a surgery. In the year 2009 she suffered an injury to her back which was recognized as stress fracture. During December 2010, she suffered an Achilles injury.

Apart from playing Basketball she has studied for a Psychology degree at Lomonosov Moscow State University and continued via correspondence from America. She is also in the course of getting her university degree at the Macquarie University, majoring in gender studies. After her days in the basketball court are over Lauren wants to take up the role of administrator as she is keener to learn what happens behind the scenes, the politics of the game etc. instead of being involved in the media.

On the personal front she is not married and is yet to find a right husband. Her net worth is estimated to be approximately $5.88 Million. She is active on Twitter goes by the handle @laurenej15 where 15 signifies the jersey number she wears in her mother's honor.
