Lea Michele is actively involved in various philanthropic efforts focused on gay rights and animal welfare. In 2008, she participated in a PETA campaign, and in April 2010, appeared in a public service announcement opposing fur clothing. That same year, she was honored by PETA for her contributions to animal advocacy.
In support of LGBTQ+ rights, Michele spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in November 2009. She also performed at the 2008 benefit concert "Alive in the World," which raised funds for the Twin Towers Orphan Fund.
