Lea Michele is actively involved in various philanthropic efforts focused on gay rights and animal welfare. In support of LGBTQ+ rights, Michele spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in November 2009. She also performed at the 2008 benefit concert "Alive in the World," which raised funds for the Twin Towers Orphan Fund. Michele has worked regularly with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and in October 2010, helped organize a benefit performance for The Painted Turtle, a camp for children with serious medical conditions. This event also commemorated the 35th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with Michele starring as Janet Weiss. In February 2011, she performed at the MusiCares Benefit in Los Angeles as part of The Grammy Awards' charitable events.
Personal Life
Before gaining mainstream fame on Glee, Lea Michele had several relationships within the Broadway community. She briefly dated actor Matthew Morrison. From 2006 to mid-2008, she was in a relationship with stage actor Landon Beard. She then dated actor and singer John Lloyd Young from summer 2008 until spring 2009. The two met while portraying Marius Pontmercy and Éponine in a staging of Les Misérables at the Hollywood Bowl.
In November 2009, Michele began dating Broadway actor Theo Stockman. The couple were together for nearly two years before parting ways in September 2011.
