Lexi Thompson

Alexis Thompson, or better known as Lexi Thompson was born in 1995, February 10 in Coral Springs, Florida. This 21-year-old is a professional golf player participating in LPGA Tour, a league for professional US female golf players.

Family and education

Thompson has two brothers who are also golf players. Nicholas is a professional PGA Tour golfer while her younger brother Curtis is a member of Louisiana State University's men's golf team.

Career

Lexi began her golf career at the age of 12 when she surprisingly managed to qualify for U.S. Women's Open in the year 2007 leaving everyone breathless. It should not surprise people that she was the youngest to ever accomplish such a feat. During the tournament, though, she shot 86-82 which was not enough. During the same year, she managed to win Aldila Junior Classic which was one of the highlights of her amateur career. Later that year she was also crowned the winner of Junior PGA Championship, youngest to ever do so. Before becoming a true professional golfer in 2010 Thompson manage to qualify again for the U.S. Women's Open. In 2008 her score was 75-77 and it was not enough. However, in 2009, she became a semi-finalist in the same tournament and it was her biggest achievement at the time. Full of confidence, Lexi decided it was time to go pro and pursue golfing as a full-time career.

In 2010, Thompson signed deals with Cobra-PUMA Golf as well as with the famous energy drink company Red Bull. Due to her lack of official recognition as a professional, Thompson relied heavily on her sponsors to get her into pro leagues. in 2010, she once again qualified for U.S. Women's Open and finished in the 10th place. She was nine shots behind the winner of the tournament but the fact that she received her first pro check for over 72 thousand dollars was still an unbelievable achievement for a 16-year old. In a fortnight's time, she participated in another tournament – Evian Masters where she finished second and won more than 242 thousand dollars.

Later that year Thompson made a petition to let her participate in LPGA tournaments for the upcoming year. Her petition was denied but the commissioner made her a promise that the rules of the tournament system would be changed, allowing her to participate in the qualification stage.

She won her first LPGA tournament on September 18 and took the grand prize of 195 thousand dollars. At the end of the year, she also managed to get the first place in Dubai Ladies Masters which gave her around 97 thousand dollars.

Thompson's rise to stardom was an unbelievably quick one. In 2009, she had a world ranking of 246 and since 2013 she maintained her position and stayed in the top 10 of the world. Her highest rank was in 2015 when she was considered to be the 4th best female golfer on the planet.
