Early Life and Education

Lucy Chet DeVito was born on March 11, 1983, in New York City, New York, to actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman. She grew up in Los Angeles, California, alongside her siblings, Grace and Jacob. Her father is of Italian descent and was raised Catholic, while her mother is Jewish. Inspired by her father’s acting career, Lucy developed a passion for performing at an early age.

Lucy participated in high school theater productions in Los Angeles. After graduating, she attended Brown University, where she further honed her acting skills and became involved in local theater productions. During this time, she appeared in plays such as Complete Female Stage Beauty, Anna in the Tropics, The Glory of Living, and Our Town.

Beginning of Professional Acting Career

Lucy DeVito began her professional acting career in 2005 with a role in the television series The Revolution. In 2006, she played a cashier in the comedy TV series Crumbs. She expanded her experience in film and television in 2007, appearing in the film Nobel Son alongside Alan Rickman, portraying the character Wanda. That same year, she also featured in the movie The Good Night.

Between 2006 and 2008, DeVito made several television appearances. She played Jenny in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia—a series that also starred her father Danny DeVito—and took on the role of Linda in the TV series Dirt.

DeVito’s first more prominent film role came in 2009 as Miss Greenstein in the movie Leaves of Grass. She continued to build her filmography with performances in independent films such as Sleepwalk with Me and A Quiet Little Marriage. From 2010 to 2015, she had recurring television roles, including Stephanie Krause in Melissa & Joey and Sue in the supernatural comedy series Deadbeat.
