Mehcad Brooks was born in 1980 in Austin, Texas. He was the son of the Austin American Statesman editorial writer named Alberta Phillips and his father was an ex-pro football player named Billy Brooks. He has a stepfather named Gary Bledsoe who worked as a lawyer.
He showed an interest in acting when he was young. Brooks attended L.C Anderson High School. After graduating from high school in the year 1999, he went to the University of Southern California where he studied Cinema and Television. He decided to turn down scholarship offers from Ivy League schools so that he could go to USC. After leaving college, he decided it was the right time to pursue a career in acting and entertainment.
