She is the daughter of Jerry Hardin, a character actor, and Diane Hardin, a retired actress and acting coach. Her brother, Shawn Hardin, is the former CEO of Flock, a web browser company. The family later relocated to San Francisco, California, where Melora and her brother were raised.
Hardin attended Patrick Henry Junior High School in the San Fernando Valley and later graduated from Ulysses S. Grant High School. She continued her education at Sarah Lawrence College, where she fine-tuned her creative and performing arts skills before fully committing to her acting career.
Melora Hardin began her acting career as a child in the late 1970s. One of her earliest roles was in the television series Thunder, which aired from 1977 to 1978.
