Michael Shannon was born on December 7, 1974, in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. His mother, Geraldine Hine, was a lawyer, and his father, Donald Sutherlin Shannon, was an accounting professor. Shannon comes from a white, upper-middle-class background. During his early years, he divided his time between Kentucky and Chicago following his parents’ separation.
He attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. From a young age, Shannon showed a strong interest in acting. He began his performance career in local theater and small commercials before gradually transitioning to film and television.
