Michelle Kosinski was born on May 6, 1974, and raised in Cinnaminson Township, New Jersey, near Philadelphia. She graduated as class valedictorian from Holy Cross High School. From a young age, Kosinski was actively involved in the arts, training in classical ballet, participating as a cheerleader, and pursuing creative writing.
She attended Northwestern University, enrolling in an accelerated program that allowed her to earn both a Bachelor's and a Master’s degree. Michelle Kosinski began her career in broadcast journalism at WIFR in Rockford, Illinois. She then joined WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was instrumental in establishing the station's Piedmont Bureau. In 2001, she moved to Miami to work for WTVJ, an NBC affiliate.

In 2005, the South Florida Women in Communications Organization named her Woman of the Year.
