Mike Conley Jr. is an American professional basketball player currently playing for the Utah Jazz of the NBA. He is best known for his long and successful tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Michael Alex Conley Jr. was born on October 11, 1987, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He is the eldest of four children born to Mike Conley Sr. and Rene Corbin Conley. His siblings are Joan, Sydney, and Jon. Athleticism runs in the family. His father, Mike Conley Sr., is a former Olympic track and field athlete who won a silver medal in the triple jump at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His younger sister, Sydney Conley, has also competed as a track and field athlete at the international level.
Conley played college basketball at Ohio State University, where he was part of the Buckeyes team that reached the NCAA Championship game in 2007. After an impressive freshman season, he declared for the NBA Draft and was selected fourth overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, following Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, and Al Horford.
During his early years in Memphis, Conley competed with fellow point guard Kyle Lowry for minutes on the court. Over time, he developed into a cornerstone for the Grizzlies, known for his leadership, defensive skills, and steady playmaking. In 2013, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. He also earned the NBA Sportsmanship Award twice, in 2014 and 2016, reflecting his professionalism and respect on and off the court.
In July 2016, Conley signed a five-year, $153 million contract extension with the Grizzlies, which at the time was the richest deal in NBA history. Despite his efforts and consistency, the team struggled to advance deep into the playoffs during his tenure.
In June 2019, Conley was traded to the Utah Jazz in exchange for multiple players as the Grizzlies entered a rebuilding phase. Although the trade marked the end of his era in Memphis, he embraced the opportunity to contribute to a new team. At Utah, he continued to demonstrate his veteran presence and remained an influential figure in the locker room and on the court.
Mike Conley Jr. is married to Mary Peluso, his college sweetheart from Ohio State University. Although Conley declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman year, their relationship remained strong. Mary continued her academic pursuits, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2010. The couple got married in a private ceremony in Columbus, Ohio, in July 2014, attended by close family and friends.
They have one child, a son named Myles Alex Conley, born on August 4, 2016. Mary shared her pregnancy journey with fans on social media, giving followers a glimpse into their family life.
