Molly Helen Shannon was born on September 16, 1964 in Normal, Illinois. James Francis Shannon her father who is a project supervisor and Mary Margaret, her mom who was a teacher. Tragically, at 4 years old, she was involved in a shocking accident that ended the lives of her mom, her younger sister, and cousin yet she was able to survive. Growing up, Helen went to St. Dominic School a tuition based school in Shaker Heights, Ohio and later Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio before she enrolled in school to study drama at New York University. In the year 1987, Molly graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Following her graduation from school, Molly initially worked in Cravings eatery on Sunset Boulevard as a manager and furthermore at Gelson's grocery store in Marina Del Rey.
To get her career launched, Molly started going to film tryouts and earned a role in the revamp of The Phantom of the Opera as Meg in 1989. She lined this up with a role in the second season of Twin Peaks as Judy Swain. She then got great roles in shows like In Living Color, General Hospital, and The John Larroquette Show. Molly's big break came when she made her Saturday Night Live appearances in 116 episodes from 1995 to 2001. In film, the actress showed her great acting ability in Return to Two Moon Junction, Happiness, Analyze This, and Superstar. Molly Shannon was found in movies like My 5 Wives where she assumed the role of Dr. Van Dyke. She kept her rise going with films like Wet Hot American Summer, Serendipity, The Santa Clause 2, My Boss' Daughter, Marie Antoinette, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Molly Shannon played the character of Melody Tiara in Bad Teacher and voiced Wanda in Hotel Transylvania. In recent years, Molly has been more engaged with TV series more than she has worked in movies. In August 2019, Marlon Wayans’ new show, Sextuplets was released on Netflix. On the show, Molly plays the role of Linda.
Molly got married to Fritz Chesnu on May 29, 2004. They are the proud guardians of two children. Their daughter Stella was born in 2003 their son, Nolan was born in 2005.
