Early Life and Background
Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom on August 15, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, was an American rapper, entrepreneur, and community activist. Raised in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Los Angeles, he was of Eritrean and African-American descent. During his youth, he became affiliated with the Rollin 60's Neighborhood Crips, a Los Angeles-based street gang. Despite the challenges of his environment, Nipsey sought to use music as a way to instigate change and uplift his community.
