Born on July 3, 1980, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Olivia Munn is the daughter of Winston Munn—of English, Scottish, and German ancestry—and Kim Schmid, who is of Chinese descent and was born and raised in Vietnam. Schmid moved to the United States after the Vietnam War and completed her education in Oklahoma. Olivia is the fourth of five children and spent portions of her childhood on Yokota Air Base near Tokyo, Japan, due to her stepfather's military service in the United States Air Force.
Munn graduated from Putnam City North High School and later earned a degree in journalism, with a minor in Japanese and dramatic arts, from the University of Oklahoma. As a child, she practiced karate from the age of five until sixteen, eventually earning a black belt under the encouragement of her parents.
Olivia Munn began her media career as an intern at a local NBC affiliate in Tulsa. In 2004, she briefly worked as a sideline reporter for college football and women's basketball at Fox Sports Net. Feeling unfulfilled in that role, she decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting full time.
After a few minor appearances in music videos and films, Munn's breakthrough came in 2006 when she became co-host of G4’s "Attack of the Show!" The tech-centric program helped Olivia gain recognition for her on-screen charisma and quick learning despite initially lacking in-depth knowledge about video games. Her intelligence, confidence, and charm contributed greatly to her success during her time on the show, which lasted until 2010.
Olivia Munn’s acting career spans both television and film. Her movie credits include roles in Big Stan (2007), Date Night (2010), Iron Man 2 (2010), I Don’t Know How She Does It (2011), Magic Mike (2012), Deliver Us from Evil (2014), and Mortdecai (2015). She later appeared in Ride Along 2 (2016), Zoolander 2 (2016), and most notably as Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).
On television, Munn co-hosted "Attack of the Show!" (2006–2010) and acted in series such as "Beyond the Break" (2006–2007), "The Daily Show" (2010–2011), and HBO’s "The Newsroom" (2012–2014), in which she portrayed financial reporter Sloan Sabbith. She also lent her voice to the character Captain Phoebe Liang in the animated show "Miles from Tomorrowland" (2015).
Beyond acting, Olivia Munn has had a successful modeling career. She has appeared in campaigns for brands such as Pepsi, Nike, and Neutrogena, and has been featured in numerous magazines and tabloid publications. She was ranked #2 on Maxim’s Hot 100 Women list in both 2011 and 2012. Additionally, she has twice posed for anti-fur campaigns with PETA.
In 2010, she published a memoir titled Suck It, Wonder Woman: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek (ISBN 0-312-59105-5), in which she humorously reflects on her career and personal experiences, embracing her identity as a self-proclaimed "geek."
Standing at 5 feet 4 inches tall, Olivia Munn is recognized for her slim, athletic build. She maintains a physique often cited in media with measurements of approximately 34-25-35 inches. To prepare for her role as Psylocke, she underwent intense physical training and reportedly lost around 12 pounds. She credits her youthful appearance to regular fitness routines and a diet including Japanese sweet potatoes, which are rich in hyaluronic acid.
Addressing public speculation about plastic surgery, Munn clarified that her facial appearance transformed due to natural procedures and lifestyle changes rather than cosmetic surgery. She also attributes her dedication to exercise to sessions with a hypnotist, who helped instill healthier habits.
Since 2014, Olivia Munn has been in a public relationship with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Though the couple has no children, they have drawn considerable media attention. Prior to dating Rodgers, Munn was in a relationship with Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman—from 2012 to 2014.
Munn has openly discussed her struggles with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and trichotillomania. Despite these challenges, she has managed to maintain a successful professional and personal life through discipline and mental resilience.
