She was born in Texas and her father worked for United States Air force. She had to move many times in her childhood with her family. She stayed in many places including Florida, California, Washington and Michigan. When she was still young, in place of watching shows that targeted the children, she always liked to watch the sports.

She studied at Niceville in Florida and she attended the Niceville High school.  She liked to play the track and field, basketball and tennis. After graduation, she joined Florida A&M University.  She continued to run the tracks and she ran a 400 meters and mile relay. Oliver was able to get the degree in the broadcast journalism and she was able to graduate during the year 1984.

She started her broadcasting career in Georgia with WALB and after a year, she went to WAAY-TV in Alabama before she moved again to WIVB-TV in New York. She started her career in sport reporting during the year 1991. After this, she worked for ESPN and for Fox Sports. She works together with Troy Aikman with Joe Buck while also working for TNT sports like a sideline for the NBA playoff coverage.

She got an award from Ebony for being an Outstanding Woman in the Journalism. Pam Oliver is enjoying a good life both in her career and personal life. She is married to her boyfriend of long period called Alvin Whitney. Their marriage took place in a private party where only family members with some close friends were invited. She is happy with her marriage and there is no divorce expected in the near future.
