Rick Gonzalez was born on June 30, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York. He is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. His parents, both immigrants, met in New York and settled in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, seeking the best possible environment they could afford to raise their son.

Gonzalez attended local schools in Brooklyn for both elementary and high school. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in acting, often participating in school plays and performing impressions of family members and friends. Recognizing his potential, his teachers encouraged him to pursue a career in acting. He took their advice to heart and successfully applied to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, located in Manhattan's Lincoln Square. After graduating in 1997, Gonzalez began actively pursuing work as a professional actor.
