His father, Frank Kalil, was a former football player who played at the University of Arizona and had brief stints in the USFL and NFL. His mother, Cheryl Kalil, was a former model and won the Miss California title in 1981.

Education and High School Football Career

Ryan attended Servite High School, an all-boys Roman Catholic school in Anaheim, California. During his time at Servite, he was an active member of the football team, playing alongside notable teammates such as Matthew Slater, who later joined the NFL and played for the New England Patriots.

College Career at USC Trojans

Kalil continued his education and football career at the University of Southern California (USC), where he played for the USC Trojans. Known for his agility and precision, he earned multiple honors during his college years. His accolades included the Bob Chandler Award (2005), the Morris Trophy (2006), and the Courage Award (2004). He was also a finalist for both the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation’s top collegiate center, and the Outland Trophy, presented to the best interior lineman.

Ryan's leadership and on-field performance earned him the title of USC’s best lineman, an honor voted on by his teammates. His standout college career culminated in an invitation to participate in the prestigious Senior Bowl, showcasing top senior talents eligible for the NFL.
