Sarah Hyland is an American actress who was born on November 24, 1990, in New York City, New York, in the United States to parents Melissa Canaday and Edward James Hyland. When she was a young girl, Hyland was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia and received a donor kidney from her father. Her father's kidney eventually failed her within a few years and she received a second kidney transplant, this time from her younger brother Ian. She attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, New York. In 1997, she got her big break in the film industry when she landed her first role playing Howard Stern's daughter in the film "Private Parts". Hyland went on to play Molly in the 1999 made-for-television movie "Annie" and then Maddie Healy in the NBC comedy "Lipstick Jungle". Hyland's major break came in 2009 when she was cast as Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom "Modern Family".
The show went on to earn the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. In 2010, Hyland began dating Matt Prokop but four years later she obtained a domestic violence temporary restraining order against him which later became permanent. Hyland went on to date Dominic Sherwood in February of 2015 after meeting on the set of "Vampire Academy". Hyland and Sherwood broke up in 2017 and she went on to date Wells Adams later that year who she currently lives with in Los Angeles. Hyland has said that she has contemplated suicide and blamed herself for her body rejecting her father's kidney.
