Sarah Mclachlan was born January 28, 1968, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was gifted with musical talent from a young age and began playing the ukulele at age four. McLachlan went on to study classical guitar, piano, and vocals at the Maritime Conservatory of Music. There she studied the curriculum of The Royal Conservatory of Music. By the age of 17, and while she was still a student at Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, she became the singer of a rock band called "The October Game". They had one song that can be found on the independent Flamingo Records release "Out of the Fog" and "Out of the Fog Too" called "Grind".
Mclachlan eventually signed to Nettwerk before even writing a single song. In 1997, she married her drummer, Ashwin Sood. The pair held their wedding in Jamaica. Sadly, her mother died of Cancer in December 2001, the same year Mclachlan became pregnant. Her mother's tragic death was offset by the birth of her first child and all the while she never gave up on her music career. By 2009, she had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Her most recent album was titled "Shine On" and released on May 6, 2014.
