Scott Brooks

Scott William Brooks was born on July 31, 1965, in French Camp, California. Known for his boyish appearance, some have noted a resemblance to Marty McFly, the iconic fictional character from the “Back to the Future” series. Brooks is a former professional basketball player and veteran NBA coach. In 2001, he was inducted into the University of California, Irvine’s Hall of Fame. Most recently, he served as the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his playing career, he primarily occupied the guard position. Brooks is estimated to have a net worth of approximately $10 million.

Early Career and Collegiate Highlights

Scott Brooks began his basketball journey at East Union High School in Manteca, California, from which he graduated in 1983. He initially enrolled at Texas Christian University (TCU), where he played one season with the Horned Frogs before transferring to San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California, for his sophomore year. From 1985 to 1987, he played for the University of California, Irvine.

One of Brooks' standout collegiate performances came in a game against the University of the Pacific, where he scored 41 points in a 90–79 victory. This feat tied the scoring record at the Pacific’s Spanos Center for a single game, solidifying his reputation as a capable and prolific scorer at the college level.

NBA Career as Player and Coach

Despite not being selected in the 1987 NBA Draft, Brooks launched his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), joining the Albany Patroons. He was named to the CBA All-Rookie Team in 1988 and played a key role in the Patroons’ championship that season. He also had a stint in the now-defunct World Basketball League with the Fresno Flames.

Brooks enjoyed a ten-season career in the NBA, playing for multiple teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Notably, he was a member of the Houston Rockets championship-winning team in 1994. Toward the end of his playing career, he appeared with the Los Angeles Stars of the American Basketball Association (ABA) during the 2000–2001 season.
