Soon Hee Newbold was born on November 11, 1974, in Seoul, South Korea. She was adopted as an infant by American parents and raised in Frederick, Maryland. She has two sisters. Displaying exceptional musical ability from a young age, Newbold began playing the piano at five and took up the violin by age seven. Her early dedication to music led her to win multiple prestigious competitions as a young concert performer.
