Stephan James was born on December 16, 1993 in Scarborough, Ontario. He moved on from Jarvis Collegiate Institute in 2011 after his graduation. He is the more youthful sibling of actor Shamier Anderson. His family comes from Jamaican ancestry.

Besides his famous part in Homecoming, James is additionally famous for his job as the Olympic sprinter Jesse Owens in the 2016 film Race. For the amazing portrayal of the athlete, he won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
