Early Life and Education

Suzie Plakson was born on June 3, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She has a brother, Michael, and a sister, Barbara. After graduating from high school, Plakson attended Northwestern University where she studied theater and acting. Following graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue her acting career.

Stage Career and Early Roles

Plakson began her career on stage and gained early recognition performing alongside Anthony Newley in the national revival tour of Stop the World, I Want to Get Off. She also appeared on Broadway in La Bête, portraying Marquise Thérèse Du Parc. Her stage work in both New York and nationwide productions helped establish her as a talented theatrical performer.

Television and Star Trek Appearances

Suzie Plakson became a familiar face on television with her role as sportswriter Mary Margaret Tynan in the sitcom Love & War. She went on to appear in a wide array of TV series including How I Met Your Mother, Mad About You, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Ties, Judging Amy, Murphy Brown, and Beauty and the Beast.

Plakson is especially well-known in the science fiction community for her work on various Star Trek series. She played multiple characters in four iterations of the franchise, including: the Vulcan Dr. Selar in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the half-Klingon Ambassador K'Ehleyr in The Next Generation, the female Q in Star Trek: Voyager, and the Andorian Tarah in Star Trek: Enterprise. These roles earned her a lasting presence in the Sci-fi fandom community and frequent invitations to fan conventions.
