Higginson was born on December 6, 1969, in Ontario, Canada, and grew up in the city of Burlington. She pursued her passion for the arts by studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. Early in her career, she was involved with talent agencies and appeared in numerous television commercials before transitioning into more prominent acting roles.

Career in Television

Higginson made her television debut in 1992 with a role as Erica in the final episode of the series Forever Knight. The following year, she portrayed Madeline Shannon in E.N.G., further establishing her presence on Canadian television. She appeared in the sci-fi series TekWar and drama Counterstrike in 1994, adding to her range of genre roles.

In 1997, she took on the role of Blythe Hall in Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal. She gained significant recognition later for her portrayal of Dr. Elizabeth Weir in the internationally popular series Stargate Atlantis, although this notable role is not mentioned in some shortened bios.
