Towanda is the fourth child of Evelyn and Michael Braxton and was born in Severn, Maryland, on September 18, 1973. At an early age, Towanda started singing in churches with her sisters Toni, Traci, Tamar, and Trina. Towanda and her sisters soon became interested in other aspects of the entertainment industry. The girls of the Braxton family gained popularity through their appearances on the television show Braxton Family Values which was broadcasted on the Women's Entertainment Network.
