Traci Renee Braxton (born April 2, 1971), is an American snger and former member of an American R&B girl group named ‘The Braxtons’. The group consisted of Traci and her four sisters, Toni (born in 1967),Towanda (born in 1973), Trina (born in 1974),and Tamar (born in 1977). They were raised in a very strict religious home, and were all member of their church's choir. It was their fist performing expiernce as a group. In 1989 they were discovered and signined to Artisa Records. They released their first single in 1990 called "Good Life". It was the groups only single and hit it's highest rating on the Billboard R&B chart at number 79. With poor sales and marketing problems revolving around the girls age gaps they were released from their contract with Artisa Records.
Oldest sister Toni would find a new label in 1991 with LaFace Records and sign on with them. It was for a soul artist deal due to the label recently signing artists 'TLC'. The sister would become her backup singers as she toured and perform in her music videos.
In 1993 LaFace Records sign a deal with 'The Braxtons' through VP Bryant Reid but never released an album and when Reid moved to Atlantic Records he took the group with him. In 1995, when the team worked under Atlantic Records, Traci left the group and started her career as a youth counselor. In 2004 however, it was confirmed by Towanda in an episode of the show Starting Over that Traci was rejected from the group by Atlantic Records because she was in fact pregnant.
Traci later reunited with her sisters for the reality show 'Braxton Family Values' on the WEtv network. And in 2013 she and husband Kevin Surrant appeared in the cast of Marriage Boot Camp. Later that same year Traci launched her solo career with Entertainment One, an independent media conglomerate. She is noted for having the most versitile voice among her sisters. She can sing alto with Trina, or soprano with Tamar. Traci ad Tamar are both noted for having the whistle register. Her solo album was released in October of 2014 and debuted at number 108 on the Hot 200 Billboard cart. Her single "Last Call" peaked at number 16. In 2013 she was also given her own radio talkshow named The Traci Braxton show on the BLIS.F.M. radio. It was a success.
In the same year on the show 'The Braxtons' during Tamar’s wedding shower, they came to know that Kevin has a child from an extramarital affair. The sisters hired a private investigator to known whether Kevin is cheating on his wife. Though the love child was a rumor, the sisters wanted to get to the bottom of it.
