Wayne Newton is an American singer and entertainer who has gone by the nicknames Mr. Las Vegas, Mr. Entertainment, and The Midnight idol, all monikers attributed to the fact that Wayne Newton is one of the best known entertainers in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carson Wayne Newton was born on April 3, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia; his father was an auto mechanic. Newton is of Irish, German, and Native American ancestry, his father was half Powhatan, and his mother was half Cherokee. Newton began his career singing at fairs and in local clubs with his brother Jerry. In 1958, when Newton was a junior in high school, a Las Vegas booking agent saw him on a local television show and signed him and his brothers to a two week gig; the brothers went on to perform for five years, doing six shows a day. In 1963, Newton signed with Capitol records and released his first album which produced his signature hit song Danke Schoen. Wayne Newton married Elaine Okamura in 1968.
The couple’s child, Erin Newton, was born in July of 1975, but the couple was divorced in 1985. Newton was married for a second time in 1994, to Kathleen McCrone, a lawyer from Ohio; the couple has one daughter, Lauren Ashley Newton, born in 2002.
