Wentworth Miller is an American actor, screenwriter, and model best known for his role as Michael Scofield in the television series Prison Break.
Wentworth Miller was born on June 2, 1972, in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England. His parents, Wentworth Earl Miller II, a lawyer and educator, and Joy Marie Palmer, a special education teacher, are both American citizens. The family relocated to Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, in 1973 when Miller was one year old.
Miller attended Midwood High School while living in Brooklyn. Later, his family moved to Aleppo Township in Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 1990. He went on to study at Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
In 1995, Miller moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. His first television appearance came in 1998 with a guest role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His first significant role was in the 2002 miniseries Dinotopia.
In 2003, Miller appeared in the film The Human Stain, portraying the younger version of the character played by Anthony Hopkins. That same year, he had a supporting role in the action-horror film Underworld.
Miller rose to international fame in 2005 when he was cast as Michael Scofield in Prison Break, a role he portrayed until 2009 and reprised in a limited series revival in 2017. Miller’s performance earned him a 2006 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama, although he did not win the award, contrary to some reports.
In 2014, Miller joined the cast of The Flash, playing Leonard Snart, also known as Captain Cold. His portrayal was well-received, and he later reprised the character in the spin-off series Legends of Tomorrow, which premiered in 2016. That same year, he also appeared in the Prison Break sequel miniseries.
Miller has also appeared in several other film and television projects, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, The Loft, and The Disappointments Room.
In addition to acting, Wentworth Miller is a screenwriter. He wrote the screenplays for the psychological thriller Stoker (2013) and The Disappointments Room (2016). Both screenplays feature horror elements and demonstrate his interest in darker, emotionally complex narratives.
Miller appeared in two music videos for Mariah Carey: “It’s Like That” and “We Belong Together,” both directed by Brett Ratner. Ratner, who directed the pilot episode of Prison Break, specifically selected Miller for these projects.
