Yunjin Kim

Yunjin Kim is an Asian-American actress best known for her portrayal of Sun-Hwa Kwon on the acclaimed television series Lost. She also starred as Dr. Karen Kim in the ABC drama Mistresses.

Early Life and Education

Yunjin Kim was born on November 7, 1973, in Seoul, South Korea. At age 10, she immigrated with her family to the United States, settling on Staten Island, New York. From an early age, Kim showed a strong interest in performing arts and pursued acting throughout her school years.

She attended the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan. She furthered her training by studying at the London Academy of Performing Arts and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama from Boston University. In addition to acting and dance, Kim has also received training in martial arts.

Breakthrough in South Korean Cinema

After graduating, Kim began her acting career in off-Broadway productions and small television roles. In the mid-1990s, she returned to South Korea to expand her opportunities. Her initial roles included the television dramas Splendid Holiday (1996) and Foreboding (1997).

Her breakout role came in 1999 with the film Shiri, widely regarded as South Korea's first major blockbuster. The movie's commercial success catapulted her into national fame. Over the next few years, she starred in a number of South Korean films such as Yesterday, Ardor, The Legend of Gingko, Rush, Iron Palm, and Love in 3 Colors.
