Early Life and Education

Zoey Francis Thompson Deutch was born on November 10, 1994, in Los Angeles, California. She comes from a family rooted in the entertainment industry. Her father, Howard Deutch, is a film and television director, while her mother, Lea Thompson, is an accomplished actress and producer. Her older sister, Madelyn Deutch, is also an actress. Zoey attended Oakwood School and later enrolled at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she studied both theater and visual arts.

Acting Career and Rise to Fame

Although Zoey began taking acting classes at age five, her professional career launched in 2010 when she was cast in a recurring role as Maya Bennett on the Disney Channel series The Suite Life on Deck. Her breakout came in 2011 with the CW thriller series Ringer, where she portrayed Juliet Martin. She also appeared in an episode of Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.

Deutch gained wider recognition in 2013 when she starred in the romantic fantasy film Beautiful Creatures, based on the best-selling novel. She followed that up with a lead role as Rosemarie Hathaway in Vampire Academy (2014), significantly boosting her profile. In 2016, she appeared alongside Zac Efron and Robert De Niro in the comedy Dirty Grandpa. That same year, she starred in Why Him? with Bryan Cranston, James Franco, and Megan Mullally.

Her 2017 was especially prolific, featuring performances in five major films: the teen drama Before I Fall, the biographical drama Rebel in the Rye, James Franco's The Disaster Artist, Max Winkler's Flower, and The Year of Spectacular Men, which she starred in alongside her sister Madelyn and mother Lea Thompson, who also directed the film.
