Mel Brooks, birthname Melvin Kaminsky, is an American actor, comedian, film producer, director, and screenwriter. He is most renowned for his broad film farces and humorous parodies, which he has created during a seven-decade career. Brooks began his career on Sid Caesar's variety show Your Show of Shows (1950–1954), where Brooks worked alongside Woody Allen, Neil Simon, and Larry Gelbart as a comic and writer.
