Arthel Neville

Arther served as a correspondent for A Current Affair where she gained acclaim for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina in her hometown of New Orleans. She lost her family home and established a nonprofit hurricane relief website titled “Arthel's Angels.”

Arthel was also associated with “E! Entertainment Television” as she produced and hosted a celebrity interview show for the network. Extreme Close-Up quickly became a hit. She interviewed more than 200 celebrities including Sharon Stone, Will Smith, and Tom Cruise. With the success of this show, Arthel became a well-known and sought-after personality in the media industry. She is noted as the nation's first high-profile African-American female entertainment reporter.

She beat out over 1,000 hopefuls to launch and anchor a show titled “EXTRA” for Warner Brothers Studios. “Extra” was an evening show providing the latest developments and news of the entertainment industry. This allowed her to become the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated entertainment news magazine program.

Arthel started working for FOX in the year 1998 as a contributor. She worked for three years until 2001 when she voluntarily resigned. After numerous other adventures, she rejoined in 2010 as the anchor of the show America's News Headquarters.

“Know that no one's going to give you anything”, she stated in an interview with the Los Angeles Sentinel. “You work hard for it, and don't give up when doors close, because other doors will open.”

Awards

Arthel Neville was awarded the “Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award” for her role in the broadcast journalism by the University of Texas. The award is given to four University of Texas graduates under the age of 45 who have reached a level of excellence in their field. In 2009, she was nominated by San Diego Magazine for its 2009 Woman of the Year award.

Other Projects

In 1993, Neville co-hosted the Miss Teen USA pageant with Dick Clark and in 1994 she co-hosted the Miss Universe pageant in Manila, Philippines with Entertainment Tonight's Bob Goen to a worldwide audience of over 60 million viewers.

In 2017, Neville began expanding beyond her news career by launching a line of accessories under the name “Arthel Neville Design.” The company produces handbags adorned with quotes promoting female empowerment. On the company website, Arthel mentions: “As a mentor, I've always been looked upon for words of encouragement. As a result, I've adopted sisters of all ages from across the globe. I find inspiration in inspiring others and I'm all about female empowerment. This led me to create Arthel Neville Design, an accessories collection adorned with my original quotes.”
