However, she was interested in music since he was a child, and always sought people who were different like him, in order to form a band of his own. Unfortunately, when he found people who looked like he did, they lacked musical talent; and in case he was lucky enough to meet skilled people, he would have to dress them up the way he wanted them to look. In his own words, he always struggled with "mish-moshed bands". Incidentally, he saw an ad on craigslist from Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack, looking for a bass player. Looking at the similar interests and influences listed, he decided to meet with Biersack with the hidden agenda of stealing members from Biersack’s band to form his own band. However, he eventually liked the environment of his new band and decided to stay as a member of Black Veil Brides. He joined the band in 2009, following which the group released their debut album 'We Stitch These Wounds' on July 20, 2010. It sold over 10,000 copies in the first week, and ranked at No. 36 and No. 1 on the 'Billboard' Top 200 chart and the 'Billboard' Independent chart respectively.
The fashion designer:
While Ashley Purdy has gained success as a musician and singer, he is also a certified graphics designer with skills in fashion designing and marketing. Having his own lifestyle brand was a dream that he nurtured for a long time, but could not spare enough time to achieve. He finally put his skills to good use by launching his own clothing line, Ashley Purdy Fashion Inc., in early 2013. He mentioned in an interview that every item he sells is conceptualized and handcrafted by him, from silk-screening to sewing and customization. In an interview, he was asked about his new fashion line, he said that it was one of his long time dreams to accomplish and that he is so glad to check that box off his list. He said that he struggled to find time to put in this project. Between his tours, he used to setup the business side of things, his partners, the LLC, the team and getting incorporated.
When he was asked about what got him into the fashion world, he said that fashion advertising and lifestyle branding has always been intriguing to him, he is not interested in fashion itself only but he is interested in selling a certain lifestyle or brand as well. He said that he always has been an artist, drawing, painting...etc, he used to draw made up rock n' roll characters in a band where each had his own style and personality. He thought that he was becoming a fashion designer by accident this way. Through his school years, he used to design logos for school t-shirts and fundraisers, he designed football uniforms as well. He was asked then about his design process, he said that it all begins with ideas, then he takes that to paper, he sketches out the designs and patterns, then he lays out with fabrics, colors and details to see how everything will look together. He then starts going to various manufacturers and finds a reasonable priced bill of materials to determine retail costs after production.
Keys to success:
Ashley thinks that time management and dedication are the main factors along with being an organized person in achieving success. He was never one to sit around, he thinks he always has to be creating in various facets to keep himself entertained. He says that if somebody wants to make something happen in his/her life or career, they shall make and find the time, simple as that.
