From 2009 to 2015, Plaza played April Ludgate on NBC’s critically acclaimed series Parks and Recreation. Her portrayal of the sharp-witted and sarcastic character became a fan favorite and is widely considered her breakout role.

During this time, she also made guest appearances on other television shows, including the sketch comedy series Portlandia in 2011. She appeared in a 2011 episode of The Next Food Network Star and has been a repeat guest on popular comedy podcasts, including Marc Maron's WTF.

Personal Life and Collaborations with Jeff Baena

In the early 2010s, Plaza briefly dated actor Michael Cera, her co-star from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Their relationship lasted about a year and a half before they amicably split.

Since 2011, she has been in a long-term relationship with screenwriter and director Jeff Baena. The couple, who have occasionally collaborated professionally, worked together on the 2014 comedy-horror film Life After Beth, with Plaza in the lead role. They reunited for the 2017 medieval comedy The Little Hours, further strengthening their creative partnership.
